User review: APH parking with Hampton by Hilton Hotel, Gatwick Airport package

Hit by the ‘bombshell’ of a 6am flight for the family holiday, APH Head of Strategic Partnerships, Kelly Robinson, knew exactly what she needed to do… but could a pre-flight hotel stop-over at the Hampton by Hilton Hotel, Gatwick Airport rescue departure day from a bleary-eyed meltdown…

The family holiday is booked and the countdown begins!

In the few weeks before, I start thinking about how we will get to the airport on the morning of the flight. With the children, it will be far easier to drive and park there because the thought of getting a taxi to the station and then hauling four sets of luggage onto the train fills me with dread.

So the next step is to find out from my husband what the flight times are. I know they are early but have to be sure to work back to decide what time we need to leave the house and what time we need to wake up.

Then the bombshell. Our flight it at 6am. That means we have to be at the airport for 4am – and up at 2am! I am certain I did not agree to that ridiculously early flight. But I am assured I did.

Okay, so now what? What about a hotel the night before? After trawling the internet for hotels at Gatwick I finally decide on the Hampton by Hilton.

They offered family rooms, located at the North Terminal and even had a covered walkway directly into the terminal. We can check in our bags the night before as well and do bag drop. Sounds like a plan. Phew, we are sorted and get a night in a hotel the day before we fly.

Our holiday starts a day early and all we have to do is get up the next morning and head for Duty Free!

The day before our holiday we packed the car and drove to APH to park and jump on the 20-minute bus transfer to Gatwick’s North Terminal.

The hotel was a short walk through the terminal and before we knew it, we were being checked in by a very friendly receptionist. The Hampton by Hilton was clean, quiet and in an ideal location. The family room was a good size, modern and very comfortable.

We had the choice of eating dinner in the hotel or walking into the terminal via the covered walkway. It couldn’t have been easier and the main bonus was that I was relaxed and we all managed to remain excited about our holiday.

We had an early start, but all we had to do was get up and head straight for departures. The bags were dropped the night before so we were all set.

What a contrast to the previous year when we drove to the airport at the crack of dawn, got stuck in busy queues at check in and departures and then had to run for our flight!

The whole experience was relaxed and the hotel and parking package worked like a dream.
